In these times of a major pandemic it is so important that adapting to change become relevant to our survival. Employees at the South Boston Parks and Rec Centers see the importance of adapting, exercising, and staying healthy more than ever now. Everyone can still exercise safely while practicing social distancing in these especially challenging times. Both Rec. Centers offer safe activities to help stay healthy.
Classes and Activities at Washington Coleman Community Center
Fit and Functional
Beginner-Friendly, fun fitness routine will increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing/sitting circuit workout. Upper body strength work with elastic tubing with handles and soft ball is alternated with non-impact aerobics choreography.
Fit and Functional Classes are Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10:15 – 10:45.

Walk Fit Class
Come burn some calories, lose weight, and get fit while walking to Walk Fit Videos.
Every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 9:15 AM – 10:15 AM
Tuesday and Thursday evening from 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM.
Line Dancercise Class
Want to get fit? THEN GET IN LINE! Come get moving, break a sweat, and learn both old and new line dances.
DANCE! It’s cheaper than therapy.
Monday and Wednesday, 5:30-6:30 PM.

Aerobic Kick & Groove Class
This is a beginner-friendly, aerobic movement class that brings dance and kickboxing to another level. This program brings serious power, strength and cardio with energetic music and movement. This powerful combination of rhythmic aerobic moves with high energy music takes you on a fat burning journey. Every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:15 pm. Instructor: Kristy McCargo
Classes and Activities at the South Boston Recreation Center
Senior Exercise Group Program
Seniors of all ages meet on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7AM to 11AM at the South Boston Rec Center to pursue fitness goals, friendships and enjoy a wide variety of activities with their peers. Some exercise on various equipment, walk around the gym or just socialize. Others lift weights, play corn hole, or billiards. This free program keeps older adults engaged, healthy and active. All over 50 are welcomed.
*Everyone will wear face mask, or suitable covering *Equipment will be sanitized before during and after each day *Only 10 members in gym at one time practicing social distancing * Only 3 members in weight room at one time practicing social distancing * Only 6 members in game room practicing social distancing
What’s Pickleball? Pickleball is a paddleball sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. This sport is played year-round at the South Boston Recreation Center on Tuesday and Thursday mornings,
9:30 AM to 12 Noon.
* Singles and Doubles
*Those waiting to play, must practice social distancing
*Everyone must bring their own racket/paddle
*Pickle ball, equipment and area sanitized after each use
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from to 2PM - 5 PM.
No! Can’t play a pick-up game of basketball during this pandemic but you can shoot around.
*Reserve Your Gym Time
*(Must pre-register by calling ahead 434-575-4230)
*30 min or more slots for shoot around
*Three on each end, can only shoot around or play shooting games while practicing social distancing
* Hand sanitize available for participants immediately afterwards
*Must wait for appointed time and leave immediately afterwards
