The Town of South Boston is located in southcentral Halifax County, within the Southside Virginia region, contiguous to the state of North Carolina. South Boston is sited at the junction of three U.S. primary highways: Routes 58, 360, and 501. These roads provide access to interstate highways and facilitate regional travel. US 58 links the Town with the nearby communities of Danville, Martinsville (61 miles), and South Hill. US 360 leads northeast from the Town to the state capital in Richmond, 111 miles away. US 501 connects South Boston with Lynchburg (59 miles) to the north and Durham, North Carolina (60 miles) to the South.
