Town Council Honors 98-year old Raymond Shelton, 92nd Infantry USA, Buffalo Solider
Robert Hughes, Morris Bryant, Tina Wyatt-Younger, "Mr. Shelton", Interim Mayor Ed Owens, Interim Vice-Mayor Coleman Speece, and W. R. Snead
Mr. Bryant was appointed to fill a vacancy, term will expire November 2013; Edward Owens was appointed Interim Mayor on March 11, 2013. He will serve in this postion until the November 2013 Election.
Town Council Meetings are held in Council Chambers, 502 Yancey Street, South Boston, VA - directly behind the South Boston Library at:
- 7:00 pm - Second Monday of each month
- 5:45 pm - Last Monday of each month
- 6:00 pm - Third Monday, bimonthly, joint meeting with Halifax County Board of Supervisors, Mary Bethune Complex, Halifax
Council Responsibilities:
The Town Council is comprised of a mayor and six councilmembers. Elected by the registered voters of the town, the Town Council appoints a town manager to oversee the daily operations of town services based upon fair and impartial policies established by the Town Council. Each member holds a term of four years.
