South Boston Town Council

The Town of South Boston has a council/manager form of government. There are six council members and one mayor elected at large from open Town elections per Virginia State Laws. Council elections are held every two years in May. Council members serve 4-year, staggered terms. Click here for contact information for Town Council.
The South Boston Town Council meets on the second Monday night in each
month at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers on Yancey Street. Council's
two standing committees, Finance and Current Issues, meet on the last
Monday night of the month at 5:45 pm in Council Chambers on Yancey Street.
Every other month, the Town Council meets jointly with the Halifax County
Board of Supervisors and the Town of Halifax at 6:00 pm in the Bethune
Complex in Halifax.

Although the Mayor does not have an official office, he can be reached through the Town Managers office at 575-4200. Current council members are : Left to right: Back Row: Don P. Thompson, T. Chris Elliott, D. Coleman Speece, Mayor Carroll Thackston, Morris L. Bryant, Vice-Mayor Edward (Ed) Owens, and W.R. "Bill" Snead. The Town Council appoints a Town Manager who is responsible for managing the daily operations of the town government and for carrying out the policies of Council.
