Strategic Goals and Objectives for 2008-2011
Adopted by South Boston Town Council on October 6, 2008
1. CONSOLIDATION/JOINT SELECTED COUNTY AND TOWN SERVICES
A. Upgrade Police Department computer system to enhance information sharing capabilities for law enforcement purposes and accommodate future technologies in regional and state interoperability projects.
B. Establish School Resource Officer programs at the Halifax County High and Middle Schools in partnership with the Halifax County Sheriff Office.
C. Provide support to insure the success of the Halifax County/South Boston Regional Drug-Gang Task Force.
D. Work with Halifax County through the 2009 Comprehensive Plan rewrite to establish land use standards that affect the Urban Planning Area in relation to the Towns.
2. PRIORITY CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS– FY 2009-2011 (TOWN FUNDED)
A. Establish Neighborhood Parks in Church Hill and Sinai Areas.
B. Renovate Washington Coleman into a Multi-Use Community and Recreation Center.
C. Establish a Vehicle Depreciation Program.
D. Identify appropriate land acquisitions to permit cemetery expansions.
E. Fund Repairs and Upgrades to the South Boston Fire Department Building.
3. PRIORITY CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS FY 2009 -2011 (GRANT/REVENUE SHARING DEPENDANT)
A. Establish a neighborhood park on the Halifax Cotton Mill property.
B. Complete the South Boston component of the Tobacco Heritage Biking/Hiking Trail.
C. Complete priority storm water management system upgrades identified in the CIP.
D. Complete Police Department evidence room improvements and Communication System/Radio Upgrades.
4. EMPHASIZE MISSION AND VALUES ON A DAILY BASIS
A. Enhance the Quality of Life for South Boston citizens by providing effective municipal
services.
