2007 Spring/Summer Activities

Youth Open Gym - Every Wednesday beginning June 1st - Weight Room, Game Room, Basketball, TV, Ping Pong
Ages 10 & under :3 - 4
Ages 11 - 14       :4 - 5:30
Ages 15 - 18       :5:30 - 7 pm
Girls Open Gym - every Thursday from 10am-12 noon for girls ages 11-17.

40& Over Basketball - every monday 7-9pm, bring a light colored t-shirt and a dark colored t-shirt.

Adult Open Gym - Starting June 1
- Every Sunday - 7 - 8:30 pm
- Basketball - Weight Room
- Free Admission to all town residents - 18 & over.

Volleyball Camp - July 11-15 - For girls ages 9 - 13. This is a week long camp. Rules - Regs - Fundamentals. Team play will be stressed to all attending. Camp is free to all girls in the county meeting age requirement.This camp will be sponsored by the Dan River Baptist Association.

Volleyball Camp - July 16-20, 1-3pm ages 11-15 learn fundamentals, team play rules, and participate in a tournament.


North Main Street Classic - May 19 - All day basketball tournament at the North Main Street Park. Ages 11 -19. One of the most popular events the Rec. Dept. does. Tournament is free to participants but seeks $85 sponsoeship per team from area businesses.

New Covenant Church Basketball Camp - June 27-29, 1-3pm for children ages 7-10.

Senior Excercise Group - Meet every Mon., Wed., & Fri. from 6:30 to 11 am. Group has currently over 100 members. Group walks, lifts weights, music, group outings, forms help groups. This is the largest ongoing program the Rec. Dept. offers.

Archey Camp - July 9 - 14 - Instructors Mary Douglas & Frances Mitchell teach the basic fundamentals and mechanics of archery such as bracing the bow, scorekeeping, & competitive shooting. Open to ages 6 & up. No registration fee but please callahead 575-4230.

Drum Camp - July 16 - 20 - Drum lessons for beginner drummers. Ages 7-14. Taught by music instructor Johnny Davis. Camp is free - no equipment needed. Call for more information - 575-4230.

"Substance Abuse Prevention" Basketball Tourney - July 27-29 - This tourney is for boys ages 12-15. Free. All participants must attend the one hour Rap Session held on Friday to be eligible to play Saturday & Sunday. Sponsored by the South Boston/Halifax Mental Health Association. See the champion Bulls photo.

Sunday Family Fun Day - August 19 - Constitution Square. A day of fun & games for the entire family.
